I will admit it. I sometimes find myself skating through life and taking advantage of my situation and everyday duties. Going to work everyday and studying for the classes you have to pass in order to graduate can get mundane. I get it. I often wonder what the point even is!
But, we have a choice. We have a choice to make our lives the way we want it. Things can get in the way and make your life more difficult, yes, but if you choose a certain path for yourself, you can make it come true! This is honestly one of the biggest lessons I have learned after graduating and receiving my undergraduate degree.
You have to make life worth it. You have to put in the effort, mentally and physically. Make the most out of the classes you are taking. Participate and ask your professors questions. They get paid to be there, and they usually have a lot more to offer you than the information they present in their PowerPoints. Make the most out of your job and work experiences. Socialize with your coworkers and meet as many new people as you can. People love to be social at work, and you will make meaningful connections with people in the long-run. When you go out with your friends or family, make the most out of this free time to unwind.
Work to ignore your personal biases and social fears!
I love to play BINGO. Yes, it isn’t a typical activity for a younger crowd, but it reminds me of my great-grandma (and it’s fun). I took my close friend and former co-worker to BINGO last night, and I was so nervous that we were in the wrong place. We were the only people under the age of 50 in that room. I honestly felt so awkward and nervous. Were people looking at us and judging? Did they think we were in the wrong place?
I decided to make a choice: I chose to make the most out of this situation and special time with my friend. I love BINGO and hadn’t gone in a year or two, so I didn’t want to waste this opportunity to make fun memories. It ended up being so much fun! After I got past my negative mindset, we enjoyed our time together making memories with a few cocktails. It was her first time playing BINGO, and she ended up suggesting a time to go play again!
I am not perfect, and I certainly do not try to make every situation in my life worth it. But, I am trying my best each day to live with little to no regrets.
