Motivation is one of the many mysteries of life.
You can’t live without it, but it is hard to find, let alone keep! If you’re like me, finding motivation in everyday life can be difficult. With working out, job duties, school assignments, housework, or any other tasks or goals in your life, it can be hard to be your own motivation. I have struggled in my own life to find the things that make me tick, and the reasons for achieving my goals.
As much as I yearn for my goals, my lack of motivation visits me once in a while and makes me wonder if I really want to accomplish the things I set out to do. I also find this leads to self doubt, when really, I know that I can reach my goals if I push myself to work towards them.
I remind myself of a few things when I am feeling a lack of motivation or lack of productivity. I take this time to reflect on my life and why I want the things I want. Here are my tips for finding motivation when things get tough!
Remind yourself what you want for your future life.
Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years? Are your actions today leading to the life you want tomorrow? When you reflect on your future life, you will begin to see a clearer path to that future and the things that you need to get done. I love visualizing how my goals will play out for me. It makes me excited to work harder for them. Reminding myself of my goals for the future brings motivation back into my life.
Take some time to rest.
When I feel unmotivated or feel an overall lack of productivity, one of my go-to solutions is to rest. As much as our lives are filled with pressure of finding success, we can find ourselves overworked. I deserve rest, and you deserve rest! Find some time to regroup and enjoy yourself. Read a good book, cook a good meal, or spend some time with friends. After you spend some time resting, you will find that your mind is clear and your motivation is revitalized.
Write down your goals on paper.
When you can visualize your goals on paper, it will help you see the things that you are working towards! Some people use vision boards, but you can simply make a list of your goals and the steps that it takes to get there. I love keeping my lists posted above my desk or beside my dresser mirror. It helps me keep track of my goals and keep them in a place that I can see it each day.
Spend 5 minutes everyday doing something that will lead you towards your goal.
Little steps each day can add up massively in the long run. Start now! 5 minutes each day is better than nothing. It may even lead you to doing more than you had planned. The little things matter more than you think. Incorporate the 5 minutes into your schedule each day to make sure that you get it done!
Find an accountability buddy for extra motivation!
Find people in your life that have goals similar to your own, or are even having similar struggles with finding motivation. This can help keep both of you accountable for getting things done and working towards your goals. When you have support from others, and when you support others, great things can happen!
